We arrived in Newton late Thursday night. The kids were off school Friday and Monday so Heath and I went ahead and took Friday off to extend our trip a little longer.
On Friday, I was able to go to my cousin Angie's house to spend some time with her, my cousin Peggy and all of our kids. I didn't get my camera out but Angie did so you'll have to check out her blog if you want to see pics. Angie's son Kyle is the same age as Gabe and those two had quite the time together....makes me wish we could see them more often! And I got to meet Peg's newest addition for the first time...Joey is quite the cutie!
So the rest of our time in Newton involved digging out some old cell phones to play with, crawling with cousin Callie, stomping in Grandma and Grandpa's mud puddles, egg hunts, seeing Uncle Phil's turkey, riding Grandpa's new Ranger, having a fish fry, making Easter egg cupcakes that Aunt Beth brought, and Gabe loving on Callie. He shows off his gentle and sweet side with her...it melts my heart. He loves to give her kisses to make her laugh!
After a couple of days of few naps, we headed home around a little after 6 on Saturday. Gabe slept the entire way home, and then drank a glass of milk when we got home and went directly to bed. He didn't wake up until Easter morning when Kendra was telling him about all the candy in the hallway that the Easter bunny had dropped...you see, when he hops around our house, he always leaves a trail of M&M's for the kids to follow.
Since the weather was nice, we got to hunt eggs outside this year. Gabe was excited to find a few superman and batman eggs and Kendra found some Dora ones.
Sunday afternoon, Heath's Mom had all of the family over for another good meal and another egg hunt. It was also my nephew Jake's 2nd birthday so we had some John Deere tractor birthday cake!
Today (Monday) the kids were off school. They played good together all day...and they made one heck of a mess. First they got out every book in the house and read it and left it lay on the floor. Then they got all of the Easter grass out and scattered it on top of all the books they'd gotten out. And then, since their Easter baskets were empty, they used them as helmets and "rode" the dinosaur. Ah, it is nice to see them get along so good but they sure wrecked my house today!
Hope everyone else had an equally wonderful Easter. Sorry we weren't able to be at the extended family gatherings but having the Easter bunny come to our house on Easter morning is an important tradition that we want to keep.
